Lovelock’s Fourth of July Kiddie Parade displayed small-town patriotism and imagination last Tuesday.

Dozens of costumed children walked or rode their bikes from the train depot to the courthouse park.

Cattlewoman Darlene Moura started the parade 45 years ago when her son Tony was five-years-old. He marched with pride all through his childhood.

As Darlene’s children grew up, she passed the baton to Colby Burke and Amanda Burrows. They’ve been at the helm since about 2005.

The theme of this year’s parade was “Star-Spangled Everything.” The Cattlewomen gave each child a 50-cent piece and a Popsicle when they arrived at the park. Families relaxed and ate hot dogs prepared by the American Legion Post #6.
