Obituary: Linda S. Trout

Linda S. Trout died on April 7, 2023, at her home in Winnemucca, Nevada.

She was born on March 8, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to William Aldrich Simanton and Rosemary Grace Frost. 

In her younger years, she traveled around the country with her family as her father was relocated for new assignments. 

When she was a young girl, her brother, Don, would read stories and tell stories orally to her sparking her interest in reading fiction and adventure books. 

She attended the first and second grade in Phoenix, Arizona then attended Winter Haven, Florida public schools from grades 3 to 12. 

She was in the first class to be racially integrated in the Winter Haven, Florida public school system during the 1958-1959 school year. She graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1962. 

After high school, Linda moved from Winter Haven to Sarasota, Florida, where she attended the Ringling School of Art.  

She married her first husband, Dennis S. Silver, in 1967 while living in Sarasota. The two were married for six years, until 1973.  

She eventually went to work for the City of Sarasota in the planning department. 

She lived and worked in Sarasota for 37 years until retiring in 1999 when she married Lewis. 

Linda married Lewis W. Trout on June 5, 1999. After their marriage, the couple moved to Barstow, California. 

They spent eight years there until they relocated to Winnemucca, Nevada for Lewis’ job change.  Lewis retired in 2010 and they kept Winnemucca as their home. 

Linda grew up in a Presbyterian family and prior to her first marriage she converted to Judaism, because her first husband was Jewish.  

She continued to practice her Jewish beliefs, but attended congregations of the Living Church of God in Palm Springs, California and Reno, Nevada after her marriage to Lewis. 

She had a love for all animals. She kept guinea pigs as pets from the time she was seven years old until her death.  She would occasionally have hamsters and rabbits as well. 

She supported the Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary and adopted most of her animals from the Northern Nevada Humane Society. 

She was an avid reader, who also enjoyed knitting, sewing, embroidery, and genealogy. 

She was very involved in the Pleasant Senior Center including several of its crafting groups. 

She also belonged to The Humboldt County Library book club. 

Linda is survived by her husband, Lewis W. Trout; her children, Daniel M. Silver of Berkeley, California and Valerie J. Silver of Bradenton, Florida; and by her brother, Donald F. Simanton of Tuscon, Arizona. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, William Aldrich Simanton and Rosemary Grace Frost; her paternal grandparents, Frank Leslie Simanton and Gertrude Florence Aldrich; her maternal grandparents, Carl Alexander Frost and Grace Alice Risk; and her oldest brother, William A. Simanton Jr. 

A Funeral Service was held on April 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Sonoma Funeral Home in Winnemucca, Nevada. 

Burial to take place on April 20, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.
