Pershing County 4-H youth will be exhibiting 73 static exhibits at Fallon’s 3C Events Complex during the Nevada State 4-H Expo Oct. 21-22.

Hand-made items displayed will include: canned goods, sewing items, educational displays, flower arrangements, photography, as well as fine arts, and crafts.

Three youth (Mya Gauvin, Lily Reynolds, and Mary McBride) have went the extra mile to combine their items, project books, and demonstrations creating educational club displays for State Expo.

Most of these items also competed at the Tri- County Fair in Winnemucca on Labor Day weekend, as well as during Lovelock’s Frontier Days at the 4-H hosted exhibit.

Pershing County 4-H was a definite presence at the Tri County Fair, which was held on Sept. 1-4, with 79 exhibits and our own 4-H youth member Annie Uhart, winning High Point Intermediate with entries in photography, educational display, and crafts.

Pershing had six exhibitors receive grand champion ribbons, and four exhibitors received reserve placings.

All 79 exhibitors received blue or purple ribbons with scores in the high 80’s to 100’s exemplifying the skills our leaders are teaching.

Our 4-H Sewing Leader June Talcott also won best in show with her quilt.

During the 4-H Pershing County Exhibit, Aug. 6th and 7th, the grand champions in the Cloverbud division, ages 8 and under, were Isabel Southworth with her flower arrangement and casserole holder, and Nora Minor won with her 4-H  inspired pillow.

In the Junior Division, ages 9 and 10, Devyn Canchola won grand with his woodburning of a reindeer in which he named “Hunting Season”, while Miley Canchola’s painted rock picture holder “Smiley,” won its craft division.

Intermediates, ages 11 through 13, winners included: Kelsey Collins winning both the silk and live flower arrangement categories.

In Sewing Mya Gauvin won two grands with her apron and coaster, while Tessa Darr won with her “Where’s the S’mores,” oil painting, and Stella Hughes with her acrylic and duct tape painting. Cade Liebsack’s model of a shotgun shell won its crafts division while Valerie Antus’s “In Dark There is Light,” group painting won its division. Annie Uhart’s exhibits (similar to Tri County) took home numerous grand champion ribbons with her entries including photos, a photo essay, string art, and a tie dye shirt.

Cashlyn Hardy’s fabric decorated topped zucchini relish  complete with recipe card won the cooking category.

In the senior division Savannah Foley won with her horse inspired mixed media art, while Lily Wagner’s & Jerzie Jones’s snow skiing “Safety Tips,” educational display won its category.

4-H has many opportunities for our youth to learn through the current 20 clubs.
