Lowry swimmers secure dual wins over Hug

The Lowry High School swim team swept a dual from Hug at Northwest Pool in Reno on Saturday, April 29.

The Buckaroo boys beat the Hawks 32-0 and the Lady Bucks won 43-14.

Hug did not have any boys swimmers, as Garret Jen won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:36.07 and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:34.89).

Caden Montero won the 200-yard individual medley at 2:53.87 and the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:06.19.

On the girls side, Tea Bengoa won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:48.44 and the 100-yard butterfly at 1:25.85. Tajia Taylor was first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 34.37 and the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:18.39.

Evie Morgan won the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:40.00 and was third in the 50-yard freestyle at 35.26.

“We had many swimmers missing due to other school conflicts, but we had some great swims nonetheless,” said LHS coach McKenzie Rupp. “This weekend Tajia qualified for regionals in the 100 breast which she has been working very hard to do. I am excited to say that each swimmer has now qualified for regionals in 1 or more events.”

Lowry heads to the Carson Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday for the Northern 3A regional Championships. Swimming starts at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
