Crutcher wins shot put at Crane Invitational

After having its last two meets canceled, the McDermitt High School track and field team was back in action on Tuesday, April 26, at the Crane Invitational in Crane, Ore.

McDermitt junior Cayla Crutcher took home the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 4.25 inches. 

Crutcher was fourth in the discus at 74-5 and seventh in the javelin with a toss of 60-0. Nevada doesn’t have the javelin as an event in high school track and field.

Freshman Laeloni Tobey finished fourth in the discus (59-5.50, fifth in the shot put (22-2.50) and 10th in the javelin (28-3). 

Sophomore Nicolette Northup placed seventh in the shot put (21-8.50) and 12th in the discus at 55-6.50.

On the boys side, senior Braden Ramsey turned in a runner-up finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 43.38 seconds.

Ramsey set a personal best in the 100-meter dash to place 10th with a time of 13.30. Ramsey also placed 18th in the javelin with a toss of 57-10.

Enrique Villalobos was seventh in both the shot put (32-0.25) and the discus (88-1) and was 17th in the javelin at 65-2, while fellow senior Lane Barnett placed 11th in the shot put (29-1), 15th in the javelin (73-8) and 22nd in the 100-meter dash at 14.78. 

Jeremiah Horn finished 14th in both the shot put (25-0.75) and the discus (61-6), which was a personal best in the discus. Tristan Bitt placed 16th in the javelin with a throw of 67-10.

Ramsey, Barnett, Villalobos and Bitt were fourth in the 4x100 relay in a time of 1:06.97.

at Don Walker Invite in Oregon

McDermitt was back in Oregon this past Friday for the Don Walker Invite in Nyssa.

Crutcher turned in a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 29-.6.75, which was two inches further than her throw in Crane. 

She was 11th in the discus at 76-9 and 26th in the javelin with a toss of 66-1.50.

Northrup was 24th in the shot put (23-2) and 37th in the discus (55-6) and Tobey placed 39th in the discus (54-8), 42nd in the javelin (24-10.50 and 49th in the shot put (20-5).

Nyssa won the team title with 106 points, followed by Nampa Christian (97) and Crane (79).

On the boys side, Ramsey placed 15th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:43.21 and he placed 37th in the javelin with a toss of 73-10. The senor placed 41st in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.65.

Villalobos placed 15th in the discus with a personal-best throw of 92-2 and the senior finished 37th in the javelin (73-10) and 41st in the shot put (29-6). 

Bitt set a personal best in the discus at 82-11.50 to place 24th and the senior was 33rd in the javelin at 81-11.50.

Lane Barnett placed 46th in the shot put (28-5), 51st in the 200 meters (31.15) and 54th in the 100 meters (145.83). 

Horn, the lone lower classman on the boys team set personal bests in the shot put (21-11.50) and discus (71-2).      

Nampa Christian won the boys team title with 115 points and Nyssa was second at 91.

McDermitt makes the short trip to Winnemucca on Saturday for the Lowry Invitational.
