The Pershing County High School track team is rounding out the 2022 season with smiles on their faces.

They’ve dealt with wind and brutal weather conditions but remained upbeat. They’ve also helped the middle school team shave seconds off their times.

“This has been a fun season so far,” said Matt Fuller. “The older athletes are looking to compete in the Regionals and State. The freshmen are learning weekly and setting PRs at every track meet.”

The team headed to Truckee, California last Saturday to compete in the Bob Shaffer Classic.

“It was a great day,” said Fuller. “The weather was windy but overall, the kids had a fun day.”

Freshman Luis Sanchez set personal bests in the 100 and 200 meters. He ran the 100 meters in 12.49 seconds and the 200 meters in 26.19 seconds.

Diego Gonzalez, a senior, ran the 100 meters in 12.69 seconds.

Brayden Wagner, a senior, PR’d in the shot put with a throw of over 35 feet (35-05).

He also hurls the discus. Freshman Efrain Aceves leaped over 13 feet in the long jump (13-02.25).

On the girl’s side, Kylee Fuller, a senior, ran the 300 hurdles and 1, 600 meters.

Grace Kalsem, a freshman, ran the 200 meters. Rylee Renfroe, a sophomore, ran the 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles.

This Saturday the team travels to Lowry High School for the last regular track meet of the season.

The State meet is at Reed High School in Sparks on May 20-21.
