The McDermitt High School track and field team made its way back to the west side of Nevada last Thursday with the Laker Invitational at Pyramid Lake High School.
McDermitt junior Cayla Crutcher continued her hot streak in the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 28 feet, 4.50 inches. She placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 74-1.
Freshmen Laeloni Tobey placed eighth in the shot put (22-11) and was 15th in the discus with a throw of 60-2 and Nicolette Northrup placed 11th in the shot put (22-2.50) and 16th in the discus at 58-9.
McDermitt was 10th in the team standings with 15 points.
Yerington won the team title and Sierra Lutheran and Virginia City tied for second at 84. Battle Mountain (81) and Tonopah (43) rounded out the top five.
On the boys side, Enrique Villalobos was eighth in the discus with a throw of 85-3 and 12th in the shot put with a toss of 28-4.50.
Senior Lane Barnett set a personal best in the shot put at 29-6 to place 10th and he set another personal best in the 200 meters at 30.69 seconds to finish 23rd.
In addition, Barnett was 26th in the 100-meter dash, stopping the watch at 14.60.
Senior Tristan Bitt placed 15th in the discus with a throw of 73-2.
McDermitt was 12th in the team standings with 1 point. Sierra Lutheran captured the team title with 11 points and Battle Mountain (92) and Mineral County (90) were second and third, respectively.
McDermitt travels to Battle Mountain on Friday for the Battle Mountain Invitational.
