Crutcher wins shot put at Mark Smith Track and Field Classic in Reno

McDermitt High School junior Cayla Crutcher won the shot put at the Mark Smith “Smitty” Track and Field Classic on Saturday at Wooster High School in Reno.

Crutcher had a throw of 28 feet, 10.25 inches to win the event to beat out Truckee’s Ashley Estabrook at 28-7.75. Crutcher was third in the discus with a toss of 79-7, a personal record. 

Yerington’s Kaydence Hernandez won the event with a throw of 85-7 and North Valleys’ Yoselyn Villarruel (81-8) was second.

Sophomore Nicolette Northrup placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 25-6.5 and 17th in the discus with a toss of 60-1.

Freshman Laeloni Tobey earned a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 23-4.5 and 15th in the  discus with a personal best toss of 60-10.

On the boys side, Tristan Bitt placed 22nd in the discus with a personal-best throw of 76-10.

Fellow senior Lane Barnett was 24th in the shot put with a throw of 28-7 and 40th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 14.58 seconds.

Senior Braden Ramsey finished 33rd in the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 13.86.

McDermitt travels to Pyramid Lake on Thursday for the Laker Invitational. 

The Bulldogs will be in Battle Mountain on Friday, April 1, for the Battle Mountain Invitational.
