McDermitt track and field team starts season at Spring Creek meet

The McDermitt High School track and field team opened its 2022 campaign this past Saturday in Elko County at the Spring Creek League Meet.

A handful of 1A, 2A and 3A schools took part in the meet.

McDermitt junior Cayla Crutcher won the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, 7 inches for a personal best. 

Teammate Nicolette Northrup was fifth in the shot put at 16-5.5 and freshman Laeloni Tobey had a toss of 23-6.5.

In the discus, Crutcher had a throw of 72-0, Northrup was at (65-6.50) and Tobey had a throw of 59-11.75. Those were all personal bests.

Spring Creek took home the team title with 223 points and Elko was second at 120. Eureka (85), Lowry (72) and Wells (45) rounded out the top five. McDermitt was eighth with 14 points.

On the boys side, Enrique Villalobos had throws of 31-3 in the shot put and 87.5-5 in the discus, while senior teammate Lane Barnett threw the shot put 26-8. 

Barnett also ran a personal best in the 100-meter dash in a time of 14.43.

Senior Braeden Ramsey ran the 100-yard meters dash at 13.63 and the 800 meters in a personal best at 2:37.33.

Spring Creek also won the team title on the boys side with 233.5 points. Elko (142), Lowry (132), Eureka (33) and Battle Mountain (21.5) completed the top five.

McDermitt travels to Fallon this Saturday and will be in Battle Mountain on April 1.
