The Nevada High School Rodeo Association returned to action with its first spring rodeo on Feb. 19-20 in Pahrump.
Humboldt County’s Emma Garijo won the pole bending average with a combined time of 41.886 to beat out Tayler Felton ay 41.996.
Garijo won the first performance eat 20.733 and was third in the second go-around at 21.148.
Garijo placed fourth in the barrel racing average at 26.027, which included a runner-up finish in the first performance at 17.730.
Garijo was fifth in breakaway roping at 15.760. She was out of the top 10 in the first performance with a time of 12.850 but Garijo bounced back to win the second performance with a time of 2.91.
Lexi Garijo placed seventh in the barrel racing average at 26.662 with to 10 finishes of 18.301 and 18.361. Garijo placed ninth in breakaway roping, after a fourth-place finish in the first performance at 3.33. She did not have a time in the second performance.
Garijo and partner Kaden Florez from Fernley were fourth in the team roping average at 25.240. The duo placed third in the first performance with a time of 8.97.
Billy DeLong turned in a runner-up finish in the boys cutting average with 139 points.
He scored 69 points in the first performance at 70 in the second. DeLong was fourth in tie-down roping with time of 26.170 and 18.670.
Cooper Hill placed fourth in boys cutting with 130 points and he as was third in the rifle shoot with a score of 238.
• Battle Mountain’s Desi Coombs was second in the barrel racing average at 35.370. Coombs was third in the first performance with a time of 17.763 and second in the second performance (17.607). Coombs was 17th in breakaway roping and 29th in pole bending.
Amelia Lancaster was fifth in the barrel racing average at 36.194, with two fifth-place finishes of 18.076 and 18.118.
She placed 11th in pole bending with times of 26.514 and 21.866 in the second performance where she placed fifth. She was 18th in breakaway roping.
Lancaster and partner Jarett Peek from Fallon were sixth in team roping with a time of 40.710.
Gracie Lou Holman earned a third-place finish in the breakaway roping average at 7.84. She finished third in the first performance with a time of 2.89.
Italy Jo Holman bounced back from knocking down a barrel in the first performance to place 10th in the average. Holman was seventh in the second performance with a time of 18.289.
Holman placed fifth in pole bending at 25.886. She knocked over a pole in the first performance to stop the clock at 26.514.
She bounced back to place second in the second performance with a time of 20.545.
• At the junior high level, Matti DeLong won the barrel racing average and the girls goat tying.
Logan Marshall placed third in chute dogging, Huntley Byrd was fourth in pole bending and sixth in breakaway roping and Brynn Barto placed sixth in goat tying.
Byrd and Bryce Gears placed fourth in team roping.
The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was in Las Vegas this past weekend and will be in Fernley this weekend.
