It’s hard to measure a team’s improvement just based off wins and losses. So, on awards night, Jared Jensen gave some examples of the Mustang baseball team’s growth.

“At the beginning of the year we lost 15-2 to the number three seeded Battle Mountain. Next time we played them we had two competitive games, losing 4-3 and 6-2. That was the first time we held Battle Mountain to under five runs since 2016,” he said.

“We also played a tough game against the number one seed and state runner-up, the Yerington Lions, losing 7-0. It was the first time we held them to seven runs or less since 2017,” he added.

After thanking scorekeeper Shelbey Fitzpatrick, Jensen introduced the team individually.

They included: Aaron Kienbaum, Travis Donaldson, Izayuh McGlothin, Wyatt Diaz, Lucian Gonzalez, Eddie Herrera, Denzel Zaldivar, Tyler Beer, Tyler Miller, Blake Burrows, Jacob Burke, Wyatt Hughes, Landon Fitzpatrick and Conner Fecht.

McGlothin, a freshman, earned a NIAA Northern 2A Honorable Mention. The coach says McGlothin is one of the fastest kids in the 2A.

“The improvement these young men showed was night and day. They have a bright future ahead of them and we’re super excited to see the growth they show next year as we aim to be a top four team in the north,” Jensen said.
