BATTLE MOUNTAIN — Get in the Act delivered their innovative Science Theater Program to Battle Mountain’s second and fourth-grade students on March 28-31. Led by Teaching Artist Diane Handzel, students used dynamic theater techniques as a learning framework to examine rock and mineral concepts. Because students dramatized these concepts in memorable scenes with their peers, they could readily learn and retain the content associated with these scenes.
Science Theater in Battle Mountain was sponsored by: Komatsu Mining Foundation, Nevada Gold Mines, SSR Mining, Hecla Mining, and the Nevada Arts Council. “I thought Science Theater was incredibly engaging and Miss Diane had excellent classroom management,” said Ms. Darby Chavez, second-grade teacher. She continued, “The kids loved the activities and they learned a lot!”
Get in the Act is a 501(c)3 organization based in Stagecoach, NV, and Science Theater has served over 25,000 students since 2009. They can be reached at (775)790-5149 or info@getintheact.org.
