Lowry boys and girls swimmers dual five teams in Truckee

The Lowry High School swim team crossed over to California on Friday, March 25, to dual five teams.

“We had some great individual swims, but unfortunately our small team size was a disadvantage with the larger teams,” said LHS coach McKenzie Rupp. 

The Buckaroo boys knocked off Incline 61-30, but lost 95-50 to North Tahoe, 173-45 to South Tahoe, 162-36 to Truckee and 95-63 to Fernley.

In the victory over the Highlanders, Matthew Lizanetz won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 21.59 seconds. Lizanetz also won the 50-yard freestyle at 25.33.

Garrett Jensen won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:18.87 and placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:35.48. Caden Montero collected two runner-up finishes in the dual, including the 100-yard freestyle (1:11.60) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:35.22), just .26 seconds ahead of Jensen.

Tanner Hatch was third in his two individual events, with a time of 32.02 in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:15.68 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Jensen, Hatch, Montero and Lizanetz won the 200-yard relay in a time of 1:56.22.

In the dual against Fernley, Lizanetz’s time in the 200-yard freestyle was good enough for first and he was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle. Jensen was second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Montero was second in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 1000-yard freestyle.

 Hatch had fifth-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

The time the relay team posted in the 200, was good enough to beat Fernley.

Against North Tahoe, Lizanetz won the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle with his time he posted. Jensen placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and Montero was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Hatch finished third in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle, while the relay team was second. North Tahoe posted a time of 1:53.53. compared to Lowry’s 1:56.22.

Against South Tahoe, the Vikings filled every event with multiple swimmers, but Lizanetz was still able to win the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle.

Jensen was second in the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and Montero placed third in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Hatch finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle. The relay team was second, with Truckee fielding three teams in the 200-yard relay.

It was the same in the dual against Truckee, as the Wolverines had multiple swimmers in almost all the events. 

Lizanetz won the 200-yard freestyle and was third in the 50-yard freestyle. Jensen placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and was fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, Montero placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and Hatch was sixth in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

On the girls side, Lowry lost 83-61 to Incline, 83-58 to Fernley, 161-44 to North Tahoe, 192-34 and 191-36 to Truckee.

Against Incline, Evie Morgan (1:40.64) and Zoey Thies (1:52.26) were first and second in the 100-yard backstroke, while Thies was second in the 500-yard freestyle (9:15.77) and Morgan was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:17.39.

Tea Bengoa won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 33.80 and placed second in the 200-yard individual medley at 3:05.50. Tajia Taylor was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (36.09) and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:32.17.

Thies, Morgan, Bengoa and Taylor were second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:47.72 and the foursome won the 20-yard relay with a time of 2:29.80.

In the dual with Fernley, Bengoa won the 200-yard individual medley and was second in the 50-yard freestyle. 

Thies had the top time in the 500-yard freestyle and was second in the 100-yard backstroke, while Morgan was tops in the 100-yard backstroke and second in the 100-yard freestyle. 

Tajia was fifth in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Both relay teams earned runner-up finishes.

Against North Tahoe, Morgan was second in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and Thies was second in the 500-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. Bengoa placed third in the 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle and Tajia finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle. Both relay teams finished third, with North Tahoe sweeping the top two spots.

In the dual against South Tahoe, who had a full roster of swimmers, Bengoa finished second in the 200-yard individual medley and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. 

Morgan picked up fourth-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and Thies was fourth in the 500-yard free style and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. Tajia placed sixth in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle and the relay teams were third.

Against Truckee, Bengoa placed third in the 200-yard individual medley and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and Morgan was third in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. 

Thies was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and Tajia was sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. 

The relay teams each placed third.

  Lowry travels to Reno on April 15 to swim against North Valleys.
