Pershing County soccer loses to Sage Ridge

The Pershing County soccer team traveled to Reno to compete with the Sage Ridge Scorpions last Friday, Sept. 24.

The Scorpions beat the Mustangs 9-1.

Freshman Yasmin Acosta scored for Pershing County in the first half on a pass from Julie Chandler. Goalkeeper Lily Anderson-Burt had over 15 saves. Sage Ridge managed seven goals in the first half and two in the second.

“Even though the score was high, the ladies are improving every week,” said coach Matt Fuller.

On Tuesday, Sept. 28, Pershing County played their homecoming game against Battle Mountain. Results were not available at press time.

Homecoming soccer princesses Kylee Fuller and Anna Jimenez graduate this spring. Both are halfbacks.

Upcoming games include West Wendover (Oct. 8) and White Pine (Oct. 9).

The Mustangs host Wendover at 4 p.m. The White Pine game starts at 10 a.m.

Win, lose or draw, the Mustangs play a fast-paced game and are fun to watch. They enjoy performing before a home crowd and always hope for big turnouts.
