Letter to the Editor: Wanting to set the record straight

Dear Editor,

Concerning the Oct. 13, 2021, edition of the Humboldt Sun/Battle Mountain Bugle/Lovelock Review-Miner article entitled “Unexpected Connections” by Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) in The Outside Guide.

Admittedly I seldom read The Outside Guide, but this one caught my curiosity with the accompanying photo of the curlicue on land on page 15. Turns out that is Land Art, which describes art made from natural materials.

In the past I have occasionally taken children to some of the NOS activities for kids, like the summer lunch activities and stories at Vesco City Park, which I enjoyed as much as the kids. Also at Water Canyon where kids were mentally and physically challenged. Now the kids are mostly grown up and many have left the area. Anyway, some good memories.

With all that I felt it was necessary to write a Letter to the Editor concerning a single sentence that had little to do with the article, but was so far off that I felt it needed to be corrected.

“This is true for humans and animals, after all humans are just highly developed animals,” said the sentence.

With all due respects humans were never animals according to the Bible.

Genesis 1:24 “And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. (25) And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”

God said that what he had made up to that point on the sixth day of creation was good.

However, after that on the same day, (26) “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (27) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

(31) “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

Please note that when God finished creating animals of various kinds He said that what He had created was “Good” and when He had finished creating the first human beings he said it was “Very Good.” So animals and humans were created as two separate groups.

Note also that in verse 26 God gave mankind dominion (rule) over the animals he had created.

Thank you for allowing me to set the record straight on this very important subject and many thanks to NOS for all the fine work that they do in our area.
