It’s been two years since northern Nevada’s high school wrestling world competed.

Last weekend over two dozen teams clashed at the Winnemucca EventsCenter. Graduating senior Devin Moura (138) represented PCHS at the Cody Louk tournament.

Moura finished 1-2 but Mike Brooks noted the closeness of both losses.

In 2019, Moura competed in the 120-pound weight class.

The coach says Moura may drop to a new weight class soon.

Moura’s day started with a pin against Coral Academy’s Jahvon Etienne at 4:37.

However, Moura narrowly lost the next two rounds. He went up against Lowry Blue’s Christopher Gildone and Lowry Gold’s David Hunter.

Spanish Spring Purple’s 14 wrestlers grabbed the top spot in the tournament with 262 points. Elko (183) and Lowry Blue (174) took second and third place respectively.

On Saturday, Wyatt Hughes (152), Justin Carruth (132) and Lucien Gonzalez (195) battled at the McQueen Tournament in Reno.

Hughes landed a pin and turned the tables on an opponent who beat him the previous weekend. Carruth and Gonzalez also showed improvement according to their coaches, Mike and Buzz Brooks.

On Saturday, Pershing County High School hosts the Lovelock Mustang Invitational starting at 9 a.m. The coaches expect about 25 teams to participate.
