VANCOUVER, Wash. – Bushnell University junior, Rebecca Kuskie passed more than 30 runners over the final 1000 meters on Friday, Nov. 19,  taking 113th place at the NAIA National Championship, hosted by the Cascade Collegiate Conference at Fort Vancouver.

Languishing in 204th place after the first 1,000 meters, Kuskie steadily moved ahead, picking off runner after runner to climb over 90 spots to end the race strong, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 43.8 seconds.

Head Coach Tom Boldon said, “Rebecca had a great season, capped off by today’s nationals experience. She really got boxed in at the start and by the time she could get her full stride it was over 1000 meters into the race. She worked hard to pass a lot of runners and I am so proud of her. From her summer training, to how hard she worked this season, she is still just getting started and I can’t wait to see what she does this spring and next year.”

Kuskie is now part of a long-standing legacy as the Beacons have now competed on a team or individual basis for 13 straight seasons.
