PUC will hold consumer session for rate application in Orovada area

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) has scheduled a consumer session on Monday, Sept. 16, to hear public comment regarding Humboldt Telephone Co.’s general rate application.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the Orovada Community Center located on 65 Ropck Creek Road.

Humboldt Telephone Co., which provides service to customers in rural areas of Humboldt and Elko counties, states its application initiates a general rate case to adjust its annual revenue requirement and to modify its rate design, but the application does not propose any changes in rates for its Nevada ratepayers. However, the company’s proposal may change the amount that statewide ratepayers of all providers of telecommunications service contribute to the Nevada Universal Service Fund (NUSF).

Based on the evidence presented in the case, the PUCN may adopt alternative proposals not contained within the application or adopt new rates, even though Humboldt Telephone Co. did not propose a change in rates.

Public comment will be limited to the contents of the application. Humboldt Telephone Co., PUCN Staff and the Nevada Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection representatives will attend the consumer session. Individuals with questions regarding the consumer session can contact the PUCN at (775) 684-6101. A Dec. 17 hearing on this application (Docket 19-07006) has been scheduled.

Information about Humboldt Telephone Co.’s application can be found on the PUCN’s website at puc.nv.gov. From the top navigational bar on the home page, select Dockets, followed by All Dockets. Scroll to Docket 19-07006 and click view.
