The Winnemucca Motocross Club put on 18 races last Sunday at the outdoor facility of the  Winnemucca Events Center during the final day of the Tri-County Fair.

“We couldn’t start setting up the track on Saturday night until the rodeo was done around nine p.m.,” said Demetrio Herrera, the President of the Winnemucca Motocross Club. “Hunewill brought us a lot of dirt and we worked until 3:30 a.m. building track.”

The flat rodeo grounds were transformed into a series of mountains and berms for the riders to compete on.

Susie Arrate was on-hand to take in the action on Sunday.

“My grandsons are racing today," said Arrate. "I haven’t been to a race in a while because the last time that I saw one my son took a nosedive and I did not want to see that anymore. I used to ride until I broke my jaw.”

The first-place riders were given cash prizes, the only amateur riders getting a payout this season.

“We have two more events coming up in the fall, the BBMX with Fernley on Sept. 14-15, and Nov. 2-3,” Herrera concluded. “Come out to the races, we appreciate everybody’s support and all of our awesome sponsors.”
