Battle Mountain NNA swim team gets ready for state championships in Henderson

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team has been taking part in meets all year and will head to the Nevada State Short Course championships this week in Henderson.

State qualifiers include Nevaeh Serna in nine events and Zayne Hall in eight. 

Hall aged up in October, which meant he competed in the 11-12-year-old division all year but had to swim times of a 13-year old to qualify for state and the hard work paid off for him.

Serna, who is eight years old, learned to swim two years ago.

At the last meet at the Reno Aquatic Club King of the Hill meet, Hall had a time of 27.63 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, was seventh in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:10.25, eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:14.05), 12th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:34.24), 11th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:35.21) and 13th in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:01.51.

Serna was second in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:45.41, sixth in the 25-yard butterfly (24.91), first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:39.98), second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:29.28), second in the 50-yard backstroke (43.93), second in the 25-yard backstroke (20.72) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle at 40.85.

Ben Distro had a time of 28.68 in the boys 13-18 year-old 50 yard freestyle. He was 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke (1:27.89) and 14th in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:37.53.

Shayne McMillin had a time of 42.33 in the girls 12 and under 50-yard freestyle. She had a time of 1:31.31 in the 100-yard individual medley, 1:29.27 in the 100-yard backstroke, 34.26 in the 50-yard freestyle, 40.45 in the 50-yard back stroke and 1”17.58 in the 100-yard freestyle.

At the CCA Spook-Tacular in Roseville, Calif., Serna was 15th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 19.00. 

She was third in the 50-yard backstroke at 38.57, seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (1:35.51), ninth in the 25-yard backstroke (22.00), 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.83), first in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:39.45 and 20th in the 50-yard freestyle (42.69).

Hall placed 13th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:16.28 and he was 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.44).

Hall finished 14th in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.76, he was 10th in the 100-yard individual medley (1:09.98), 12th in the 100-yard freestyle (59.88) and 12th in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:33.66.).
