Southern Oregon University’s Daranda Hinkey brought four of her college basketball friends to McDermitt High School this past week to help teach K-12 kids the basics of the game.
Over 50 kids came out and were treated to a lunch in between running drills and receiving one-on-one coaching.
"My parents are both alumni of McDermitt High and all of my family and grandparents live here," Hinkey said. "I was asked to host a basketball camp or clinic here, and I was excited to get a chance to do it. My focus with this camp is to teach fundamentals and help the kids slowly get better. We are hoping to do this every year to help raise money for a new gym on the reservation that the kids can use all the time."
