Summer may be here but Battle Mountain High School students and their families need to prepare for the coming school year.
“We want to encourage all 9th – 12th-graders who have an interest in athletics or aren’t sure, to at least give it a try and see if it’s something they would enjoy doing,” said Assistant Principal John Stern.
“High school sports are about teamwork, following instructions and all the other things that come with it – all the life skills are there. Sports are an extension of the classroom. We want to develop kids as they grow from a freshman to a senior; they get to see a lot of growth and that’s encouraging. I recommend it just for a healthy lifestyle,” said Stern.
All student athletes must go to https://registermyathlete.com/ and register for the 2019-20 sports season.
Free physicals will be available for 9th grade and 11th grade student athletes, and also any new athletes on July 23, at 825 North Second Street. Students and parents can call 775-635-2386 and make their own appointments.
All incoming 9th-graders and new athletes in any grade must get a concussion test before going to try-outs. “We are asking all incoming 9th graders and new athletes to stop by Battle Mountain High School,” stated Stern.
Concussion testing will be open for students on the following days, checking in at the main office first:
• July 22 – 25 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
• August 1 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
