Vandalism at Lion’s Park

Recent vandalism in the public restrooms at Lion’s Park in Battle Mountain has resulted in temporary closure to them.

City Manager Keith Westengard said, “Over the past several months there has been a lot of vandalism throughout the parks in Battle Mountain, resulting in monetary cost to the county. This last one [at Lion’s Park] was pretty bad, with human feces smeared on the walls and floors, sinks and faucets broken; it was really bad. We got it cleaned up and are in the process of repairing them, but I’m keeping the bathrooms locked unless we have an event. I’ve put port-a-potties there for people to use, but this is just getting ridiculous.”

Westengard stated the damage occurred at night, and the county is offering a $1,500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any responsible parties for the damage.
