The action spread out over three baseball fields. Lovelock hosted its second annual traveling youth baseball tournament at PCHS on Saturday and Sunday – the Mustang Round-Up.

Noah Guilbault’s trumpet heralded the opening of the two-day tourney. The soon-to-be eighth grader played the National Anthem.

Winnemucca, Fernley, Dayton and Fallon sent boys and girls into the fray. Three different age levels competed – 10U, 11U and 16U.

Coach Russell Fecht looked back on the season. He co-coached the 16U team with Chad Chambers and Tom Donaldson.

“We’ve accomplished many things over the past month-and-a-half,” said Fecht. “Our group has had fun while increasing their knowledge and gaining much-needed experience.”

Earlier in the season, Pershing County traveled to Winnemucca, Fallon and Yerington. The Mustang Round-Up closes the year.

Many Pershing parents volunteered at the weekend tournament. Lola Montes and Nicole Reitz ran the concession stand while their sons played ball on the major league field.

Athletes and fans replenished themselves with carne asada tacos and burgers fresh from the grill.
