Winnemucca all-stars play in state tourney

The Winnemucca 9-11 year-old Little League all-star team went to the State Championships in Boulder City last week and returned with some good experience and memories.

The boys qualified for state with their wins in the District 3 tournament at Carlin, but went down to Henderson 18-5 and Reno 15-3 to finish out their season in Boulder City.

The Winnemucca 9-11 all-stars were managed by JJ Pointon; Donovan Walker and Matt Hislop were the coaches. The players on the team were Pete Bengochea, Txema Bengochea, Taevyan Grau, Michael Heikkila, Amador Guzman, Maddex Hislop, Bryce Niblack, Logan Pointon, Jace Sartor, Erick Valencia, Donovan Walker, Kayden Yowell, and Connor Peterson.

Manager Pointon said, “Both games were very similar in the fact that we just did not play our A game. We showed up to compete and we played hard, but we had a lot more errors than the other teams. I told the kids that they were one of the four teams to make it to state, and that is worth something. I think the boys had a really good season. These kids played hard and they will be back again I have a feeling.”
