Man dies in Imlay after alleged shooting by brother

A man has been charged with open murder after he allegedly shot his brother at their mother’s home in Imlay according to Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen. Michael Eggers may have been fatally shot by his brother Joshua Eggers but the possible homicide remains under investigation.

At about 5:12 p.m. on July 11, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported gunshot “in the area of Apache St. in the Imlay area” according to the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office press release.

“Upon arrival, deputies located a white male adult lying on the floor with what appeared to be a gunshot wound in the abdomen/leg area. A weapon was found in the vicinity and was secured by deputies on the scene,” the Sheriff’s Office reported in the press statement.

The Imlay Volunteer Fire Department and Humboldt General Hospital Ambulance service responded and treated the injured victim “but were unable to resuscitate him” according to the Sheriff’s Office press statement. “The victim was pronounced deceased at 5:58 p.m.”

The victim’s name was initially withheld by the Sheriff’s Office pending notification of family members but Sheriff Allen last week identified the victim as Michael Eggers. Allen was not certain if the victim was living in Imlay but said the shooting happened at his mother’s Imlay residence. Suspect Joshua Eggers was arrested at the location where the incident occurred.

“This crime is still under investigation and he (Joshua Eggers) is still in custody,” Allen said. “Joshua Eggers was arrested in connection with the shooting and was booked into the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office for Open Murder. There are no other suspects identified in this case.”

Allen said in his press release that the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Science Division was contacted to assist with processing the crime scene in the search for evidence.
