Torres murder trial begins Wednesday

Carlos Torres was arrested for several charges 2018, including felony open murder for the death of 39-year-old Elizabeth Crawford, who was found with fatal stab wounds in the Country Hearth Motel in Winnemucca on the evening of March 27, 2018.

Torres was charged with one felony count of open murder, three counts of attempted escape by a prisoner and one count of possession of a controlled substance for sale. 

There will be a hearing on motions Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at 9 a.m. and the extensive jury selection will begin on Wednesday, July 17 at 9 a.m., after which time the trial will begin. 

Third judicial district court senior judge William Rogers will be presiding over the jury trial and the trial is open to the public. 

In August 2018, Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Michael Montero recused himself from the case due to conflict whereas children closely relating to both the alleged victim and defendant are involved in school counseling programs in which his wife is the main care provider for.
