Even though the season started last weekend from some football teams throughout Nevada, the Battle Mountain High School JV and varsity football teams are still prepping for its season openers on Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. The Longhorns hosted a scrimmage on Saturday afternoon against Spring Creek, Elko, Pershing County and the Lowry freshmen. The scrimmage gave the teams a chance to shake off the cobwebs and hit someone else. The Battle Mountain JV travels to West Wendover on Friday to play White Pine. Meanwhile, the varsity squad waits another week to open with Silver Stage at home on Friday, Sept. 6.
