Edith Ann (Nelson) McCombs passed away in her sleep peacefully in her home in the early hours of Aug 4, 2019. Her daughter Barb was by her bedside. Edith was 77 years old, born on May 19, 1942 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to J. Victor and Vinettie Nelson.
She spent her growing up years in North Idaho and graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class in Coeur d’Alene. She got her Master’s degree in 1972 from WSU in Teaching of Mathematics, which made it also possible for her to teach several years at the community college in Winnemucca. She loved teaching.
Edith married Norman McCombs of Pasco Washington Dec 31, 1973. Norman’s first wife passed away from a tragic accident leaving him with three children and she became their mother. In 1977 Norman and Edith moved to a farm in Antelope Valley, Battle Mountain, Nevada where they spent many years farming. In 1984 they moved to Winnemucca where they continued to farm.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband Norman McCombs, and a sister Itha Hughes of Post Falls Idaho. She leaves behind her three children Ron McCombs of Fort Lupton, Colorado, Barbara (Gary) Lewis of Alberta Canada, Rob McCombs of Battle Mountain, Nevada, Her brother Ernie (Rita) Nelson of Olympia Washington, Ruth Spencer of Coeur d’Alene Idaho along with 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Edith had a beautiful faith in God and spent her life in serving him faithfully. She loved her little fellowship meetings that were for many years held in her and Norman’s home.
The past few years she was battling cancer of which she lost the battle, but went home. She reached her final goal in peace, to be with the One she loved throughout all eternity.
She will be missed by her family and those of her faith, along with many in the community. A memorial service will be held for Edith at Sonoma Funeral Home, 47 West First Street, Winnemucca NV on Tuesday Aug 13 2019 at 3:00pm. All are welcome.
