Last Saturday night, the Lowry High School soccer squad held their 15th annual overnight fundraiser 4 v 4 tournament at the Lowry High School football field.
The tournament featured 18 teams this year and they added a few twists this year to keep it interesting.
A food concession stand and a new age division were new additions to improve on this long-standing Winnemucca tradition.
LHS head soccer coach Steve Swanson commented about the event.
“Inter-Milan has won this for the last six years," Swanson said. "But they are not here today so we are going to have a new champion this year. It is brutally hot during the daytime in August, so we came to the conclusion that it was better to do it at night, and we have been doing it that way for nine years now. This is by far the biggest turnout that we have ever had. It is a crazy turnout because we are usually happy with 8-10 teams total, and we have never had a little kids section before and we have six teams playing in our first year for them.”
Lowry opens its season in Lake Tahoe on Aug. 23-24 at the South Tahoe Tournament.
The Buckaroos begin Northern 3A play at home against Sparks on Friday, Aug. 30, at 5 p.m. and North Valleys on Saturday, Aug. 31, at noon.
