Fourth-grade students converged at the Winnemucca Community Garden May 22-23 for this year’s Ecology Fair. Americorps volunteers representing various groups like Nevada Outdoor School NOS), Frontier Community Action Agency (FCAA), and Friends of Black Rock - High Rock, as well as representatives from the Bureau of Land Management created stations at the Winnemucca Community Garden that featured an important lesson about ecology, or the study of how organisms relate to each other and their environment. Students carried Ecology Passports that they filled out at every station and completed hands-on activities. Some Ecology Fair topics: decomposition, adaptations for survival, the food chain, different types of worms, how to tell the age of a tree, how to prevent wildfires and how noxious weeks harm the ecosystem.
