Winnemucca’s local P.E.O. Chapter L raised approximately $1,500 to put toward scholarships for women with the success of its Christmas raffle basket fundraiser.

Janie Welch and Mary Beene were the lucky winners of two baskets filled with the generous donations of local merchants.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization that supports and motivates women to reach their highest aspirations. The group supports the education of women through scholarships, grants, loans, awards, and the stewardship of Cottey College.

Located in Nevada, MO., Cottey College is an independent liberal arts and sciences college for women owned and supported by P.E.O. since 1927. Chapter L also sponsors a scholarship for a Lowry High School graduating senior girl. The group actively fundraises throughout the year to help support its projects.

“Chapter L would like to thank local merchants for their generous support of our fundraiser,” said co-president Debbie Engstrom.
