Obituary: Bruce M Dohms

Bruce M Dohms, 77; passed away in Sparks, Nevada December 28th, 2017. 

He was born on September 19,1940, in Wheaton, Wisconsin. To Shirley Sr. and Iris (Thalacker) Dohms. 

After school he joined the service, where he served on the USS Thuban, USS Muliphen, and USS Lake Champlain. 

In 1963 he met his wife Verona (Gilbert) Dohms at the Skokie Produce Canning Factory. Later in 1965 Verona moved to California, where Bruce followed shortly after. They were married in Reno Nevada, December 12th, 1965. Together they had three daughters, Debbie, Dawn, and Doreen. He also had a daughter from a previous marriage, Sandra Sue. 

In 1970 The Dohms family moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan where Bruce joined the police department and worked for 10 years. In 1980 they moved as a family once again to EagleLake, CA, and later that year to Battle Mountain, where he was offered a job at Mountain Springs. 

In 1981 they moved again to Petaluma California for a short period of time before moving back to Battle Mountain, where they would reside the rest of his years. He worked for Battle Mountain Gold and was a part of the Lions Club. Later he worked for Newmont where he would retire from in 2005. You could always find him tinkering with cars or other little things around the house being Mr. Fix it. 

He also enjoyed to read and spend time with family, and always looked forward to visits from family, friends,and past co workers. Bruce was a very strong willed man, a jokester that could get a laugh out of just about anyone and someone to be admired. 

The Battle Mountain Methodist church was a big part of him, and you would find him at the Saturday Breakfast every week followed by Sunday Service. He enjoyed nascar, football and fishing. He will truly be missed.

He is survived by his wife Verona Dohms; children Debbie (John) Mauldin, Doreen (Danny) Richardson, Dawn (Buck) Giles, and Sandra Sue Dohms, and Grand-daughter Nikita (Travis) Williams who was raised by Bruce and Verona. 

He is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by: parents Shirley Sr, and Iris Dohms; step mothers Ethel and Evelyn; mother and father in-law William and Vernetta Gilbert; brothers Shirley JR(Hank), Warren (PeeWee), Donald, Herman, Neil Dohms; and sister Eva. 

Memorial Service to be held on Saturday January 13th at 11am at the Battle Mountain United Methodist Church, potluck to follow. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be sent to the American Heart Association.
