After the first day, Pershing County was 53rd out of 86 teams.

The Lovelock boys will ring in the new year at the Sparks Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 6. From there, Pershing County remains on the road throughout January.

On Jan. 12-13, the Mustangs travel to the Kiwanis Invitational in Spring Creek The following week (Jan. 19- 20) they’ll compete at the Vaquero Invitational in Fernley. Finally to end the month on Jan. 26-27, the Mustangs hit the mats at the Northern 2A Duals in Battle Mountain.

The home crowd will pack the PCHS bleachers on Feb. 3, as Lovelock and Pershing County High School hosts the Northern 2A Regional Championships.

The 2017-18 season culminates in Las Vegas with the NIAA 2A State Championships at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Friday, Feb. 9.

Wanner (170 pounds) will defend his title. Last year he wrestled his way to the top of his weight range.

Mike Brooks coaches the wrestlers with assistance from Buzz Brooks, Jared Jensen and Bobby Gibson.

The coach describes his team as hale and hardy. The flu bug bit them, along with the rest of the country. But they’ve wrestled their way back and are ready to take on new challenges.

“We’ve been sick for awhile with that type of stuff, but we’re doing better,” said Mike Brooks.

The new year holds plenty in store for the team and its fans.
