HGH EMS Rescue will offer EMT course

Area residents are invited to take their emergency training to a professional level in 2018.

Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services Rescue has scheduled an Emergency Medical Technician Course designed to help participants achieve national certification as an EMT.

HGH EMS Rescue Education Coordinator Dylan Angus said, “If you want to become an EMT, this will give you the classroom instruction and the labs you will need to achieve that goal.”

Participants may choose from two instructional tracks. A daytime track will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Feb.7.

Instruction will follow on February, 16 and 26; March 7, 16 and 26; April 4, 13 and 23; May 2, 11, 21 and 30; and June 8, 18 and 27.

Additionally, HGH EMS will offer an evening track where participants will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Monday, January 15, through Wednesday, May 9.

All instruction will take place at the ambulance station located adjacent to Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca.

Angus said much of the instruction will focus on basic medical concepts, terminology and skills at the EMT level. Some of the course topics will include bleeding, splinting of fractures, managing airway obstruction, managing cardiac arrest and more.

Participants will also be given plenty of opportunities to practice skills and review information prior to taking the National Registry Computer Adaptive and Psychomotor Skills exams.

Cost for the instruction is $1,000, which includes all books and instruction. Application is mandatory prior to the start of classes.

Please call HGH EMS Rescue at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1378, for application materials or for more information. Both men and women ages 18 and older are invited to take part.
