Pershing County JV closes undefeated season

The Pershing County High School JV boys football team laugh when they view films from earlier in the 2017 season. To coach Mike Brooks, their laughter shows how much they’ve improved.

“It’s fun to go back and look at tapes from earlier in the year,” he said. “The team’s improvement is a testament to them doing things the right way at practice. It’s also a testament to the varsity player’s leadership.”

The JV team completes the 2017 season undefeated (8-0). They persevered through some tight games, including a 14-13 win on the road against Bear River, Calif.

The Pershing County JV also won rivalry games against both Yerington and Battle Mountain.

“We had a big group of freshmen on the field throughout the season,” said Mike Brooks. “They got a leg up on the game. Thanks to all the players for their hard work. They had to grow up both physically and mentally to adjust to the demands of high school football.”

“Thanks also to my assistant coaches for their time and effort in helping the kids win games and mature as people,” he concluded.

Buzz Brooks, Craig Tipton and Jared Jensen assisted Mike Brooks throughout the season.
