With two wins this past week in Lyon County, the Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team had the opportunity to punch a ticket into the Northern 3A Regional Championships in Winnemucca.

The Lady Longhorns accomplished the first stage of what was needed after beating Fernley 2-0 on Thursday.

That set up a winner-take-all match with Dayton on Friday afternoon. The two teams tied each other when they played in Battle Mountain earlier in the season.

The Dust Devils grabbed an ear 1-0 lead in the first and made the advantage stick.

Dayton added another goal in the second half and won the game 2-0. Dayton placed third in the Northern 3A ‘B’ Division at 8-5-1 and Battle Mountain was fourth at 7-5-2.

White Pine won the league at 14-0-0 and Whittell was second with a 10-2-2 record.

Battle Mountain graduates five seniors this year in Daniela Rios, Abigail Okrzesik, Iliana Fotsch, Mary Wolters and Esma Cheno Salcido.
