Battle Mountain, Pershing County preps for playoffs

The Northern 2A Regional Championships for football and volleyball get underway this weekend for Battle Mountain and Pershing County.

The Pershing County High School football team won the regular season title in the Northern 2A and will take on West Wendover on Friday night at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, 125 miles to the east, Battle Mountain will host Yerington at 6 p.m. on Friday.

The two games are NIAA events and season passes will not be honored. Admission for adults is $10, students are $5 and seniors 65 and older are $3.

In the Southern 2A, Needles (Calif.), the regular season champion will host Democracy Prep (Agassi Campus) at 7 p.m. on Friday at 7 p.m. Needles won the regular season game 6-0. Lincoln County will be at home to take on Lake Mead on Friday at 7 p.m. 

If Pershing County beats West Wendover, it will host the lower remaining seed from the Southern 2A on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. If Battle Mountain defeats Yerington, the Longhorns will travel to the highest remaining seed from the Southern 2A. That game will also be played on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. The only way for Battle Mountain to host a state semifinal game is for Pershing County to lose to West Wendover.

The NIAA 2A State Championship is set for Saturday, Nov. 18, in northern Nevada. There is a possibility, if Pershing County and Battle Mountain are in the game, it would be played at Lowry High School in Winnemucca.

The Pershing County volleyball team will be in Fernley this weekend for the Northern 2A Regional Championships. This is an NIAA event and admission for adults is $10, students are $5 and seniors 65 and older are $3.

The Lady Mustangs will play North Tahoe on Friday at 5 p.m. Pershing County and North Tahoe split their regular season matches. The Lady Mustangs swept the Lakers on Sept. 9, in Lovelock and North Tahoe swept Pershing County this past weekend in Tahoe City, Calif.

The winner of that match will take on top-seeded Yerington at noon on Saturday at noon.

Incline and Battle Mountain will play in the other first-round game on Friday at 6:45 p.m. 

That winner will face White Pine at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. White Pine and Incline split their regular season matches.

The Northern 2A Regional Championship is slated to start at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The two teams that reach the final will advance to the NIAA 2A State Championships at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas on Nov. 10-11.

In the Southern 2A, The Meadows are the top seed and will play Lake Mead at noon on Friday at Laughlin High School.

Calvary Chapel and Lincoln County meet in the other semifinal at 1:45 p.m. The championship is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday
