Battle Mountain boys finish season with two league losses

The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer season came to an end this past weekend with a pair of losses.

The Longhorns were in Fernley on Thursday afternoon and suffered an 8-0 defeat. The Vaqueros ended the season as the league champion in the Northern 3A ‘B’ Division at 10-0-2.

The final playoff spot was up for grabs on Friday when Battle Mountain traveled to Dayton. If the Longhorns were to win the game, they would secure the third and final seed for the regional tournament. However, the Dust Devils scored a pair of goals in the first half to lead 2-0 and eventually won the match 4-0.

Dayton finished 6-4-2 in league play and Battle Mountain concluded at 5-6-1. The Longhorns, who were under the direction of first-year head coach Jorge Gonzalez, graduates five players.
