Buckaroos fall to Spartans to end season

The Lowry High School junior varsity football team concluded its season Wednesday at home against Spring Creek.

The Spartans scored the first 24 points of the night on their way to a 60-24 victory.

Spring Creek jumped out to a 16-0 advantage in the first quarter, with two touchdowns. The first was a 32-yard pass play and the second came off a 6-yard run.

With seven minutes left in the second quarter, Spring Creek increased the lead to 24-0 on a 3-yard run. However, just a minute later, Lowry climbed on the scoreboard for the first time when Chance Huitt connected with Tyler Neu on a 79-yard pass play to make the score 24-8.

The two squads combined for three touchdowns in the final 1:52 of the second quarter.

The Spartans went in front 32-8 on a 6-yard run play but that was short-lived as Cole Jones broke free for Lowry on the next play and scored on an 86-yard scamper. 

The scoring was not done, as Spring Creek used a 42-yard pass play with 27 seconds to go in the first half to lead 40-14 at halftime.

Spring Creek recovered the kick to start the third quarter and scored on its first offensive play on a 25-yard run. The back-and-forth scoring continued, as Jones answered back with his second touchdown of the night for Lowry, this time on a 35-yard run.

It took the Spartans a minute to counter back, scoring on an 11-yard run to make the score 54-20. The Buckaroos drove back down the field and was in the end zone on an 11-yard run by Neu. Spring Creek closed out the scoring as time expired in the fourth quarter on a 21-yard run.
