A handful of Lowry High School cross country runners took part in the Northeast Nevada JV Championships this past Thursday at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Creek.
Freshman Christopher McGuire was the highest finishing Buckaroo boy. He placed 10th with a time of 21 minutes, 6 seconds.
Senior Bryan Day finished 16th at 21:44 and teammate Christopher Esparza made his way into the top 20 in 20th with a time of 22:29.
Christopher Fly-Knopf finished 29th with a time of 26:06 and Kylen Timko (27:45) and Braden Thomas (22:45) rounded out the times for the Buckaroos.
Spring Creek’s Secody Charley (19:14), Terrence Simpson (19:18) and Wyatt Armstrong (19:42) swept the first three spots in the race. Elko’s Jimmy Murphy (20:00) and Nathan Loze (20:06) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Spring Creek won the team title with 21 points, followed by Elko (42) and Lowry (72).
Freshman Kinsey Albisu was the lone Lowry girl in the race and she placed 15th in a time of 25:26.
Spring Creek freshman Emma Campbell won the race at 22:34 and Elko’s Abigail Prickett was second at 22:46. Spring Creek’s Grace Florence (22:50) was third and Elko’s Makayla Chacon (23:17) and Kady Allen (23:23) rounded out the top five.
Lowry travels to Sparks on Friday for the Northern 3A Regional Championships at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex. The 3A boys race is at 10:30 a.m. and the 3A girls begin at 12:40 p.m.
The top three finishing teams advance to the state championships on Nov. 4 in Sparks. The top five individuals on non-qualifying teams also advance to the state championships.
The Southern 3A Regional Championships are slated for Friday at Veterans Park in Boulder City.
