Weekend fires keep crews on their toes

Fire season isn’t over yet, folks.Winnemucca Rural Fire Department responded to two fires over the weekend. 

The first fire brought out the engines around 11am Saturday morning off Grass Valley on Kathy street. A controlled burn had gotten out of control and required assistance. The fire had consumed about 10 acres, all told, and took about an hour to set down. No injuries and no structural damage reported.

On Sunday afternoon, WRFD responded to a brush fire on Bird Lane. In the end, the fire claimed 5 acres. No injuries, and no structural damage. The cause for this fire is unknown at time of publication. This fire also kept firefighters busy for an hour.
