BATTLE MOUNTAIN — The Bureau of Land Management’s Battle Mountain District is selling firewood cutting permits for personal use, at the Battle Mountain District office and Tonopah Field Office. Both of these offices are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m. but will issue permits over the phone for those that live more than an hour away. The Battle Mountain District office is located at 50 Bastian Road, Battle Mountain, NV and the Tonopah Field Office is located at 1553 South Main Street, Tonopah, NV.
The Inyo National Forest’s White Mountain Public Lands Information Center, located at 798 N. Main Street, Bisop, CA, will also be selling permits from November 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017and their office is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The White Mountain Public Lands Information Center will not be offering the permits over the phone so if you plan to use this location please keep that in mind.
Personal firewood can be collected either as green or dead wood, consists of Pinyon Pines and/or Junipers and costs $5.00 a cord with an additional $1.00 per cord road maintenance fee. The 1-2 cord permit is valid for 90 days after purchase and additional cord permits are valid for 180 days after purchase. All stipulations governing the permits will be included in the paper work received with the permit. With a personal use permit, up to 5 cords of wood may be purchased. If you want to cut wood for resale or commercial use, contact your local BLM office and ask about our Commercial Permit. Personal woodcutting is allowed on most Battle Mountain BLM land; contact your local BLM office for more information
While out cutting please remember to have your permit on you, make sure that you are following all stipulations and ensure that you are following all recommended procedures/stipulations to prevent wild fires. Also please stay on existing roads and consult your maps to make sure you are on BLM land. Please report any permit violations with as much information as possible (e.g. date, license plate number, detailed location, and directions to area) to the Battle Mountain District Office or to the Tonopah Field Office.
