Battle Mountain High School (BMHS) homecoming will take place during the week of Oct. 9 through Oct. 14. Events are scheduled throughout the week.

On Monday, Oct. 9, BMHS will begin the “Horns of Horror” themed homecoming week. Each school day will allow students to dress-up for class with a unique theme on each day of school, including “Angels and Devils,” “IT Day,” “Zombie Day” and “Horns of Horror.”

Monday’s “Angels and Devils” dress-up theme will include a one hour assembly before lunch. A special bell schedule will shorten class periods one through six by five minutes and cancel seventh period. Upper-class students are encouraged to dress in red and lower-class students to dress in white.

In the evening, the BMHS ladies will take over Tim Knight Field for a Powder-Puff football game at 6:30 p.m. BMHS will charge $1 to participate and/or watch the event. All proceeds will be donated to help families affected by recent natural disasters.

Tuesday, Oct. 10, is “IT day.” Students will have a normal bell schedule. They are encouraged to dress up as clowns for the school day. Both the boy’s and girl’s soccer teams will be playing at home against the Elko Indians. The boy’s team will start at 2 p.m., and the girls will play at 4 p.m. Later in the evening, He-Man Volleyball will take the court at the BMHS gym at 7 p.m. An admission charge of $1 will be donated.

Wednesday, Oct. 11, is “Zombie Day,” with students encouraged to dress up as zombies. The school district will also be offering a PSAT test (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) at the District Office building.

Thursday, Oct. 12, themed “Horns of Horror” encourages the students to wear the school colors of green, gold and white to school. BMHS will have a special bell schedule in place with another one-hour assembly planned before lunch. Class periods one through six will end five minutes short and seventh period will be canceled. Evening activities for Thursday will include the high school vanities at 7 p.m. followed by the bonfire in the dirt parking lot by BMHS.

On Friday, Oct. 13, a parade will take place at noon. Floats that will be participating are required to be in place by 11:30 a.m. The parade floats will be judged at 11:45 before the parade makes its way down Main Street. The volleyball team will host the Silver Stage Nighthawks at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. The Longhorn football team will play host to the West Wendover Badgers at 4:30 p.m. for the junior varsity and 7 p.m. for varsity.

Homecoming week will end on Saturday, Oct. 14, with girls soccer playing against Pershing County High School at 1 p.m. and the volleyball teams taking on the Yerington Lions at 11 p.m. and noon.

The evening will conclude with the BMHS Homecoming Dance from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Admission to the dance is $7 per person, or $5 per person with a student body card. There is a semi-formal dress code for the dance.
