Pershing County cheerleaders raise spirits

The PCHS Spirit Squad took to the stage on Tuesday night. Advisor Gina Garcia recognized their efforts. The nine students will now cheer for the Pershing County Mustangs basketball teams.

“We accompanied the football team to all of their conference games,” said Garcia. “The squad put in serious work.”

When first-year Advisor Garcia looked over her roster last August she saw that only two of the team members were returning seniors. Garcia’s daughter Marissa and Ximena Gomez graduate this spring.

“Everybody else was starting from scratch,” she said. “So we hit the ground running.”

Garcia thanked several members of the Lovelock community for their support of the squad. Cecelia Hanley topped her list.

Hanley coaches Lovelock’s littlest cheerleaders, the LYFL squad.

Gina described Hanley as “my partner, my friend, and my favorite fellow cheer-mom.”

The two women cheered on the same squad during their PCHS years.

“This season would not have been half as much fun without Cece Hanley,” said Garcia.
