Stone named WVCA Hotel Representative

The Humboldt County Board of Commissioners appointed Brian Stone of Winners Inn Casino to the Hotel Representative seat on the Winnemucca Convention and Visitor’s Authority (WCVA) Board of Dirtectors. The seat had been vacated by Herb Ross, who resigned earlier this year.

Stone and Winnemucca Inn’s Jame Frei applied for the seat, and both attended the meeting.

Stone is the General Manager of Winners Inn Casino, Sundance Casino and Pete’s Gambling Hall. He said he wanted to participate in “moving events forward” so the community doesn’t lose them. He mentioned how horse racing “just went away.”

“We need to start kind of developing a plan to not lose an event, morphing it into something else, so we don’t lose these events” that are important to businesses and the community as a whole, he explained.

Jame Frei said he saw the opening for the Hotel Representative seat and decided “off the cuff” that he wanted to give it a try. “Why don’t I step up and let you guys do what you do,” he said to the commissioners.

One reason Stone was chosen over Frei was because Winnemucca Inn’s Boyd is also on the board of directors, and the commissioners wanted to make sure both of the town’s major establishments were represented on the board.

Stone could not be reached for comment.
