WINNEMUCCA — Silver State Chapter #6, Order of the Eastern Star, held their 123rd annual installation of officers in Winnemucca on Nov. 6. Linda Prawitz of Battle Mountain and Mike Giles of Lovelock were installed as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron.
The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. Millions of dollars are raised by the worldwide organization annually for numerous projects and charities. At the Grand Chapter meetings in Reno in September Nevada members presented over $10,000 to the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas and over $8,000 to UNR Cancer Research. Shriners Hospitals, Scottish Rite Speech Therapy, Masonic Youth Groups, the Heart Fund, and First Responders also received sizable donations.
