Battle Mountain students Get Into The Act with science theater

BATTLE MOUNTAIN — Get in the Act delivered their innovative Science Theater Program to Battle Mountain’s fourth-graders on Oct. 25-26. Led by Executive Director Diane Handzel, students used dynamic theater techniques as a learning framework to examine rock and mineral concepts. Because students dramatized these concepts in memorable scenes with their peers, they could readily learn and retain the content associated with these scenes.

Science Theater in Battle Mountain was sponsored by: Newmont Mining, Barrick Gold, Joy Global Foundation, SSR Mining, Klondex Mines, and the Nevada Arts Council. “Science Theater focuses on components of the rocks and minerals science unit taught in our classroom,” said Ms. Angela Campbell, fourth-grade teacher at Battle Mountain Elementary. She continued, “It is an engaging and super-fun presentation that the students enjoy and remember!”

Get in the Act is a 501(c)3 organization based in Stagecoach, NV, and Science Theater has served over 12,000 students since 2009. They can be reached at (775)790-5149 or info@getintheact.org.
