Battle Mountain’s Cookhouse Museum has a new artist-of-the-month display. Photographs by Amanda Hall were displayed during Oct. and will continue to be displayed into Nov.

Hall loves taking photos of landscapes and using her photography skills for weddings, family pictures and maternity photos. She’s taking pictures for Junior League. Hall uses Photoshop editing to bring out some of the artistry in her photographs.

“I started by taking photos of landscapes, then people started asking me to take pictures for money. I mess around with Photoshop on pictures of people, more than I do with landscape photos,” explained Hall. “It means a lot to me to be selected as the artist of the month. Theresa Ryan was my teacher and she was the one who asked me to be featured.”

Hall uses two different cameras — a Nikon D3200 and Canon T2I. She said she particularly likes using the Canon because she learned photography on that camera and is more familiar with it.

Hall had some advice for photographers who are trying to get into the field, “Just keep working hard.  It has taken me 12 years and every year I feel like I have gotten better at it.”

The Display is just to the left of the main entrance of the Cookhouse Museum. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Lori Price and her staff are there to greet visitors with a smile.
