The McDermitt High School girls basketball team picked up its eighth win in nine tries, with two victories at the Alicia Jenkins Memorial Tournament last weekend in Crane, Ore.

The Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 50-27 win over Adrian, Ore., on Friday, Dec. 15. After a close first quarter where McDermitt led 8-7, the Lady Bulldogs dominated.

McDermitt outscored Adrian 14-2 in the second quarter to take a 22-9 advantage at halftime. It was much of the same out of the break, as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away from the Antelopes with a 12-3 spurt to cap off a 26-5 run and lead at 34-12.

The championship game on Saturday against Crane was a defensive battle, as the Lady Bulldogs held the Mustangs to 14 points through three quarters in the 36-24 victory.

McDermitt raced to a 14-4 advantage in the opening eight minutes and was able to hold on to that margin for the remainder of the contest.

Both offenses struggled in the second and third quarters with a combined 22 points. However, the Lady Bulldogs were able to extend the margin by two points.

McDermitt will be busy at the end of the year, playing in the West Coast Jamboree in Concord, Calif., from Dec. 28-30.

McDermitt opens with Kennedy (Richmond, Calif.) on Thursday at 7 p.m.

If McDermitt wins, it will play the winner of Westmoor or Granada at 7 p.m. on Friday at 7 p.m.

If the Lady Bulldogs lose, they will play at 1 p.m. against the loser of Westmoor and Granada.

The part of the Onyx Bracket includes Deer Valley and Chowchilla and International and Inderkum.

McDermitt returns to its home floor on Friday, Jan. 5, against Wells. The Leopards are also playing in the West Coast Jamboree in another bracket.

The Lady Bulldogs then are on the road for four straight games.
